Forefront - Redwood

My first pair of JK’s (Forefront Bison) and so far, I’m loving the result! I followed the sizing/fitting instructions, but hedged a bit since I was slightly in between on length. Went with a 10.5 3E originally, but when I initially received them, it soon became apparent that I needed to go down a 1/2 size (huge toe room). So, I went through the return/exchange process uneventfully and in about 6 more weeks received these 10 3Es. Width is perfect and the length is much better. Break-in has been a non-event…as others have posted, the bison uppers are butter soft and I felt the footbed had at least initially settled after about a week and a half of daily (all day wear). So far, I think I have oiled these twice with Bick 4…am wanting to preserve the color. Very pleased and looking forward to pair #2 (O.T Bison Smooth) arriving next month!

Since the early 1990s I was a brand loyalist to Redwing Boots. A couple years ago a YouTube video popped up about PNW boots and how superior they were in comparison. I started to really learn about the manufacturers and different styles and build processes. After doing some homework I decided on JK, but like a lot of “newbies” I was worried about sizing and really, the cost. I pulled the trigger on my Custom Forefronts. I measured my feet exactly like the process said and put my faith in the makers at JK. I have never been so happy with a pair of boots! The arch is spot on, the construction is like a battleship bracket. The leather is superior to the cookie cutter boots. The stability of these boots are outstanding. Thank you to all that had a part in making my first handmade boots. I guarantee these will not be my last…(maybe my composite toe 👍). I’m already looking at my next non-work boot for everyday wear. I’ve spent more time than I’d care to admit just looking at my new boots and I can’t find the tiniest imperfection - not so much as a stray thread. The boots are bound to have one but, if I can’t find it, does it really matter? Did the falling tree in the forest make any noise?

More than that though, the comfort of these things is insane. Zero break-in time. I took them out of the box, laced them, inserted my feet, and have only removed them to sleep and shower since. I keep waiting for a hot spot or some sore to develop. Nothing. There hasn’t been a single moment of discomfort.

If you’re reading this and on the fence about buying these boots, let me just say this. I’ve owned tons of brand name boots and, needless to say, these blow them out of the water. However a few months ago, I got on a PNW custom boot kick as well and I now own boots from three of the top makers in this category. Don’t get me wrong. They’re all very nice. But these JK Forefronts are the best all around by a noticeable margin. If I were forced to remain in possession of only one pair of boots for the rest of my life, it would be these and the decision wouldn’t be hard. I’m at a loss for how such an unbelievably high quality pair of boots was produced and delivered to me at this pricepoint. Thank you, JK!
