No break-in and no hot spots, and he oiled them half an hour after trying them on.
"These boots were perfect out of the box. Literally no break in or hotspots. I oiled them up about a half hour after trying them on because I knew I was keeping them."

Calls his bison pair break-in free.
"These boots require no break-in. They feel marvelous, look nice and are extremely comfortable. If you want a nice, robust, good-looking PNW boot, here you go!"

Says break-in was minimal on his bison pair, and he's already planning a second.
"These are the most comfortable and well fitted boots I've ever had on my feet. Break in time was very minimal if at all. The quality and fit and finish are perfect. I'll definitely be buying another pair."
Wore his custom pair for 12 hours on day one, about 11,000 steps.
"These are going to break in very quickly. Day one wore for 12 hours, walked about 11,000 steps/4.7 miles, felt great."

A custom pair that broke in quickly and has been on his feet since July.
"Boots broke in very quickly and very comfortable. The fit is immaculate! Had them since July."
Wears them all the time now, and calls the break-in quick for cowhide.
"Break in was pretty quick for cow hide and wear them all the time."
The uppers were ready out of the box, and the footbed took three to four days.
"Love the Bison. Thick but soft. The footbed takes longer to break in (3-4 days) than the uppers. After oiling, those were good to go right out of the box."
About 40 hours to work out the hot spots, and he says they keep getting better.
"Took about 40 hours to get rid of hotspots and break in enough to start being comfortable. Now they just get more comfortable every day."
His second Forefront, custom this time, with an honest note that break-in was rough.
"My second pair of Forefront boots. I wanted a custom pair this time. I love them. Pretty rough break in but these guys thought of everything and send boot oil with the boots and instructions on how to oil them properly. I'll probably never buy a different work boot honestly. Gonna be sending the first pair back for new soles soon as these are broken in completely."
About 100 hours of mostly office wear before they felt like tennis shoes.
"I love these boots. I regularly wear a 10D and I ordered a 9E. They run snug. They felt a bit tight in the beginning but after the break-in they feel like tennis shoes when I wear them. My break-in took about 100hrs of mostly office use. I helped with the break-in by using a Brick-4 leather conditioning & Saphir Renovateur cream. When in the office I wear thicker socks to help with the process as well."
Handmade leather boots have a reputation for a tougher break-in period and in these ten reviews, the answer for the Forefront is in a range. Six owners described a break-in that was minimal or quick, and the other four needed anywhere from a few days to about 100 hours of wear. Bison seemed to have an edge with all three bison owners on the shorter end from no break in at all to a few days for the footbed. A few helped it along with boot oil, leather conditioner, and thicker socks. Ready to start breaking in a pair of your own? Shop the JK Boots Forefront.
