Composite Toe Work Boots: 10 JK Owner Reviews on Comfort and Protection
Every safety toe boot JK makes uses a composite toe, not steel. Composite toes are pre-molded to meet the same ASTM safety standard as steel, but with a roomier toe box and none of the heat or cold that metal can carry into a boot. These ten reviews come from people that are wearing that build every day, from a welder to a first-time custom boot order.
His job required an ASTM rating on the receipt, and JK's customer service changed how they write them just to make sure he had it.
"I have just received my boots, so I wanted to give a first impressions review. The boots took 7 1/2 weeks to arrive. I spoke with customer service multiple times during that, and they always were so kind and helped me out. My work required the ASTM rating on the receipt for the boots and the customer service rep I spoke to conversed with his superiors and helped me out by changing the way they write their receipts to include it. Now that is customer service!"

A welder, and his composite-toe Super Duty skipped the break-in he'd needed with every other steel or composite toe boot he'd owned.
"Honestly, from the first time I got fitted to when I got my Super Duty's, it was only two weeks unbelievably. I had questions putting in my order online and went back to the local JK boots store nearest me in Tempe, Arizona for help. A size 8/6E VERY custom 10" Super Duty lace to toe composite toe in gray and black leather both rough out that just was a match made in heaven. I have had them for about 3 weeks now and I love them every time I lace them up. I don't even think I need to break them in as I have had to with other steel toe/composite toe boots. I am a welder that definitely has over protected feet now."

After a lifetime in a different brand, his safety toe boot was stiff for two days.
"After wearing redwings for most of my adult life I finally decided to branch out and spend the money for a quality boot. I used JK's quick fitting guide and ordered 9.5 E boots custom colors, 12in safety toe boot. Once I received my boots I quickly threw away my beat up redwings and stepped into the most awesome boot I have ever put on my feet. Day 1 and 2 they were a little stiff but after about 3 weeks now I can wear them 12-14 hrs a day with no issues. For anyone out there questioning spending the extra money for these boots I say do not wait, the quality is well worth waiting for."

A longtime Redwing buyer who switched brands after doing his homework.
"Since the early 1990s I was a brand loyalist to Redwing Boots. A couple years ago a YouTube video popped up about PNW boots and how superior they were in comparison. After doing some homework I decided on JK. I have never been so happy with a pair of boots! The arch is spot on, the construction is like a battleship bracket. The leather is superior to the cookie cutter boots. Thank you to all that had a part in making my first handmade boots. I guarantee these will not be my last…(maybe my composite toe 👍)."

Sixty hours into a composite safety toe build with almost no break-in needed.
"These Bison Honey Superdutys are amazing, the arch support is amazing, they're comfortable right out of the box with no break in necessary on the upper, the insole is breaking in nicely in rotation with my two pairs of O.Ts, I have roughly 60 hours in them at the time of writing this. They're 10" height and sport the composite safety toe. Great work to the men and women at JK! You've made me a happy man, with the best boots known to mankind!"

A little lacing trial and error, and JK's own instructions got him the rest of the way.
"These guys have been breaking in brilliantly. First couple straps I had to figure out the best lacing pattern to work for me. Thankfully JK supplies a little document that gives you some instructions. They have broken in fairly quickly. The boots are incredible, excellent quality and you can tell they will last for, well maybe for as long as I do! Looking forward to my next pair!"
The stiffest boot he's owned, broken in inside of two weeks.
"These are definitely the stiffest boot I've ever had but it's been just shy of 2 weeks in them and they're broken in now and they're really comfy to be in. I used the measurement guide and it worked out great, I just double checked my measurement and hoped for the best and it worked out great."
He'd size up next time, but a slightly snug composite toe wasn't enough to send this pair back.
"I love my boots I can tell how strong they're built by the weight 8 pounds. One thing I wish I had done was got them 1 size bigger with a composite toe that rubs on my big toe but no problem that I can't deal with. If I ever order another pair I'll do that and I know I will have to get another pair."

After a long search for a safety toe boot that actually fit, this was the one that worked.
"I've always had troubles finding a safety toe boot that fit but now the look is over, these fit great. I only have a few days of use in them and they already feel broke in. Very good quality and boots were made within the time period JK gave me."

A simple, no-complications verdict on a 14-inch composite toe build.
"I got a pair of custom made Super Duties that are 14 inches high and with the composite toe and they are just so comfortable."
None of these ten mentioned the toe getting in the way of comfort, and a couple made a point of saying how little break-in it took. That tracks with why JK builds every safety toe boot this way now, meaning the protection doesn't have to come with a trade-off.
